What Motivates Me?
I Have always had a love of solving problems. As a once famous 90's rap artist once put it "If there is a problem yo' I'll solve it"
- Vanilla Ice.
That is one of the things I loved about my previous career as a satellite service tech, (TV satellite not astronaut), as everyday was different and there was always a plethora of problems to solve.
Some people say life is a mixed bag, and as it seems I must have fallen into the bag while it was being mixed as I have found it to mostly be a huge struggle just to get through the day most days.
One of my biggest hurdles has been my health vs my distrust of doctors that lead me down a fully preventable path to my bodies destruction. I am now only 43, born in 1982, and need to use a walker to get around without falling over or to sit because the pain gets to intense.
Turns out pain is a really good motivator to finally start to trust the medical community.
I took a few years and honestly there were points where i never thought I would even have the motivation to even try anything again, but here I am. Although I will never be able to do a lot of the things I used to love, with a half destroyed body, I still have my mind and my love of problem solving.
A couple years ago I got so fed up with Windows I just hated the lack of customization and the constant ads and things that i didn't want installed that I couldn't get rid of without basically getting into the registry and deleting them. at that point I thought to myself why don't you just use Linux if your going to have to do this stuff anyway.
What a learning curve! I made it through and would still rather backup all my files and do a fresh install of Arch Linux twice a day than ever go back to windows.
During the trials and tribulations of going through different Linux disrtos and learning to use the terminal for almost everything, I had the odd bump into python, HTML, and JavaScript, you know the magic that makes it all happen, and what I discovered is a world in which I belong. It like
the mother-load of problems to solve. some ease some very challenging. The best part is i don't need my decrepit body to solve these problems I can do it from my home. Now sure I am old and I may not every be as good at it as some of the younger folk out there but it wont stop me from trying to be.
Besides I found something I love to do even when I get particularly stumped an frustrated it just makes it that much better when I finally get that AHAH! moment when I figure it out and lean a new thing.
I may still be on the beginning of my coding journey but i have never felt more motivated in my life. Plus it is just plain fun! I love it and I am luck there are so many free resources out there to take advantage of to help me on my new journey!
